2 CONC moved to Vermont. The same obituary implies that she later moved to 
2 CONC St. Lawrence Co. NY, where GW married Mary at Massena in 1837. It may 
2 CONC have been the case that the mother moved back to Vermont because that 
2 CONC was where she had lived prior to St. Andrews. There is no mention of 
2 CONC her in the 1850 census with G.W. so it's probable that she died 
2 CONC before then and possibly before GW moved to Pectonica in 1840.
2 CONT The father must have died before 1837 - the only date known after 
2 CONC GW's birth in 1807 - when GW was 30. So it's most likely that the 
2 CONC father died very much closer to 1807 than to 1837.
2 CONT The father might have been a 'loyalist' who moved up to Quebec from 
2 CONC CT or MA or VT or NH. He may have been engaged in the fur 
2 CONC trade/farming and he may have moved down to there from the Maritime 
2 CONC Provinces rather than having moved north. Or he may have been in the 
2 CONC British army and been around St. Andrews in the course of his duties. 
2 CONC Robert G. Simpson, his great grandson, used to say the family came 
2 CONC from Scotland.
2 CONT Following the French and Indian war around 1760 the Scots dominated 
2 CONC the fur trade, which might just account for George's father, or more 
2 CONC realistically his grandfater, being in the area as [TAN: the last one 
2 CONC or two lines of this text are missing. I think whoever photocopied it 
2 CONC didn't center the original properly. I got the photocopy from Dave 
2 CONC Bailey, but I think it's likely the work of Donald Simpson.]

2 CONC communications office at the White House. After the war he worked for 
2 CONC the US Shipping Board repatriating former enemy ships taken in 
2 CONC reparations. In the course of this he travelled all over Europe and 
2 CONC to India and Japan getting ships made seaworthy to get them back to 
2 CONC the US. The work was completed 1922-23 when he started work for the 
2 CONC FW Woolworth co at their first store in England at Liverpool.
