Levi moved from Massachusetts as a young man to Vermont in 1790. First settling in Hartland then purchasing property in Reading where he established a milling operation consisting of grist mills, carding, black smith shop, a community store and other activities utililzing the water power of the brook now known as Baileys brook.. He built Baileys Mill's a large two story building resembling a Greek revival mansion but primarlily for his many business activilties. It included two identical apartments as housing for the Bailey family and his businesse managers.The building along with the local community became known as Baileys Mill's and is operated today (1996) as a Bed and Breakfast by its owner Barbara Thaeder with Don Whitaker.
