INDEX
Notes
Samuel died at the home of his son Ransom Bailey in Grundy Co., Iowa at the age of 97. Letters exchanged between Samuel (and other members of his family then residing at the Bailey's Mills home in Reading, Vermont) and his family, mainly his
son Ransom in Grundy Co. Iowa, were preserved by Ransom and passd down to Samuel Orwell, son of Ransom and then to his son Ransom Bailey. Ransom's brother S. David Bailey in turn gave these letters to Wm. M. Bailey, a second cousin, who has
transcribed, cross referenced, typed and published them as the letters of Samuel Bailey.
From these letters it appears that Samuel largely funded (possibly by loan only) the enterprises of his three sons who came to Illinois. This money was probably from the estate of Levi Bailey, Sameul's father.
Samuel came to Iowa and Dakota in 1886.
