The Rev.D.F.Lowry, the youngest son of Calvin, became a legend in his own time. A man of considerable energy and capabilities, he was responsible for founding and building some eight rural churches primarily for the Indians of Robeson County,
N.C. He was an educator and the first graduate from the Indian College in Pembroke, now the Pembroke State Universy of North Carolina, where he served on the board of directors (the student building has been named in his honor).He was the
first pastor of the Pembroke Methodist Church, a rural mail carrier and farmer. He and his first, wife Jessie Mae Hatcher of South Carolina, had eight children. Jessie died in 1941 and D.F. married Phelia Hunt in 1942.
