Notes: Aunt Deborah, called Aunt Pert, account of the Henry Berry Lowry story may wellbe the most authentic of the various versions given since as a child she was an I witness to the tragedy that beset her family. At the age of 85 in 1924 she recounted the story to Paul Green, a friend of her brother D. F.Lowry, and who ws Director of the University Players of the U. of N. C. The story was later produced as a play at the Out-Door-Theatre at the Sea-side near Manteo, N.C. Debra (Aunt Pert) was the niece of Henry Berry Lowry, the famous outlaw and his two brothers Thomas and Steven, in the period following the Civil War. Besides the play, the personal recollectons of D. F. Lowry and Dr. Earl C Lowry, have been compiled in an account written by Ouida L. Bailey (daughter of D.F. Lowry) as a creative writers project. These interviews with Paul Green, the famous playwright, took place in 1924-26, at the home of D. F. Lowry when Aunt Pert was 85 years old.
