Notes: James came to America from England as a young man as His Majestys 1st Judge of Virginia. He married a Tuscarora Indian a Tribe within the Iroquian family originally numbering about 5,000 in the state of North Carolina. In 1957 these and other Indian Tribes of Robeson County, North Carolina joined together for the purpose of being recognized as an official Tribe of the North American Indians and thus eligible for increased funding from the Federa Government. Now called the Lumbee Tribe, from the Lumber River which flows through that part of North Carolina, a name which they adopted in 1954 This recognition has yet to ne achieved. They now consistute the largest Indian Tribe East of the Mississippii river. .
