Notes: Ouida Francis was born on the family farm at Hopewell, Robeson County, North Carolina (15 Sept.,1913) daughter of D. F.Lowry from whom she inherited her considerble energy and ability. She is the only daughter of four surviving past the age of 40 due to the ravages of cancer.
She graduated from U. Chatanooga, Chatanooga, TN in 1938, with a B. S. in science and received her M. S. from U. Iowa, Iowa City, IA in 1940 in Zoology. Abd did post graduate work at Harvard and U. Penn. in subsequent years.
During World War II worked at the Frankford Arsenal, Phil., the Naval Air Station, Johnsville, PA. and conducted research at the U. of Penn, Philadelphia, PA. Taught biology at the U.of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa and in public schools in MA and IL for 25 years.
Author of "You Can Do It - A Recipe for the Twenty-First Century", 1995, a book on healthy living including 300 heart healthy recipes.
