Notes

According to Robert G. Simpson and Julie Bailey, Cyrus was an unsuccessful (unlucky?) farmer but a good carpenter/builder but not a good business man. He was very eccentric to the extent that he spent a great deal of time (and money?) trying to construct a "perpetual motion" machine.
