Notes

He joined the us navy in ww 1 and as an ensign was assigned to the communications office at the White House. After the war he worked for the US Shipping Board repatriating former enemy ships taken in reparations. In the course of this he travelled all over Europe and to India and Japan getting ships made seaworthy to get them back to the US. The work was completed 1922-23 when he started work for the FW Woolworth co at their first store in England at Liverpool.
