an analysis of the current situation

I believe men are withdrawing because the traditional family structure has broken down. And one of the causes of this breakdown, in my opinion (along with the industrial revolution and the rise of the multinational corporation), is the idea, which gained prominence in the west in the 1970s, that the role of the man in a marriage should become more like the role of the woman. That he should share his traditional decision-making power with her, and assume some of the responsibilities that traditionally belonged to the woman.

I believe the feminist movement has done a world of good but is wrong about power issues in intimate relationships: a husband and wife sharing power (responsibility and the authority needed to carry out the responsibility) equally is not for most of us. Whether this is because the idea of traditional marriage is built into us genetically or whether, as some say, only traditional marriages work in the kind of culture we live in - I don't know.
